Our second trip into the Delaware Speedway wall with Scarlett was unbelievably frustrating. Doubly so since we really didn't know what had happened - when I applied the brakes nothing happened, she wouldn't slow down. Fans in the stands said that they heard something break, a loud "bang" before as I entered the turn, but we couldn't find any clear evidence of that after the race.
In the fall we decided to at least re-clip Scarlett, she wasn't worth anything all bent up. We bought a front clip from Jamie Grover (#33) and had it put on by McColl Racing Enterprises again. Once that job was done we decided to see if we could put Scarlett back on the track in 2006, after all it was a pretty quick car. Our plan was to see if we could find a used crate engine, and leave Gert complete as a back-up car.
We managed to make a deal for a used engine (out of the 2005 Champ Dan Monahan's car) and some used parts from Dave Lawrence and Matt Lake (thanks!) and the rebuild began. Uncle Don, Steve Williams, Neil Richmond, Stephen Richmond, and Dad worked very hard throughout the winter to get Scarlett ready again.
On April 8, 2006 Scarlett hit the track.
THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK TEAM !
Attention now turns to getting Gert ready for her backup role.
